“At MIT, when I was enrolled, only a quarter of the students were women. Alpha Phi was the only sorority on campus at the time. When you have such limited numbers of women students, you have to fight for representation. I joined Alpha Phi and it helped shape my community with women on campus.”

Andrea Wong is a highly accomplished media exec who has made huge contributions to the entertainment industry. She grew up in Sunnyvale, CA watching The Brady Bunch, The Partridge Family, Three's Company, Dallas, Dynasty, Love Boat, and Fantasy Island, but didn’t consider a career in television until much later.

Wong was initiated into the Zeta Phi chapter of Alpha Phi at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering and went on to work on the Pacific Stock Exchange in San Francisco. Her work in finance led her to Stanford University where she earned her MBA and her personal style stood out. "She is probably the only person to wear silk every day of business school," recalls her classmate Liz Hobart Zang, MBA '93.

During her time at Stanford, Wong hosted Melrose Place watch parties and spent her summer working on the Today Show at NBC. After completing her MBA, Wong's impressive television career began at ABC, where she served as Executive Vice President of Alternative Programming, Specials, and Late Night. During her time there, she developed several HUGE shows, including (no biggie!) The Bachelor, the U.S. version of Dancing with the Stars, and the Emmy Award-winning Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. In 2007, Wong joined Lifetime Networks as President and CEO, where she oversaw the acquisition of Project Runway and helped make Army Wives the network's highest-rated original series.

In 2011, Wong joined Sony Pictures Entertainment as President of International Production for Sony Pictures Television and President of International for Sony Pictures Entertainment. In this role, she oversaw the company's international television production business and was responsible for acquiring and investing in overseas TV outfits, including a majority stake in Left Bank Pictures, the production company behind the popular and critically acclaimed Netflix series The Crown (swoon!).

Wong currently serves on the boards of several companies, including Liberty Media Corporation, Roblox, Hudson Pacific Properties, Inc., Qurate Retail Group, and Oaktree Acquisition Corp 11. Wong also serves on the Stanford Graduate School of Business Advisory Council, is a Trustee of the Royal Academy of Arts, is a member of the Committee of 100, and, is a Henry Crown Fellow at the Aspen Institute. She formerly served as the Governor of the British Film Institute. Wong lives in London and is a fan of Formula 1 racing.

We love watching an Alpha Phi alum soar and can’t wait to see what’s next for the inspiring Andrea Wong.
